If hehose a Paladin for lore reasons and has invested this mh time in it, he's going to want to play it out - and when group eounter design isonsidered, Ret is probably thelosest to his ideal. Able to offtank some mobs for a while at least, andapable of throwing out some heals when required, it's the most "Prottor
of the Faith" sp. Anyway, both healing and tanking are reallyallings, and if you aren't one of thealled, you'll just bring fail to the group with you - mh more so than DPS. My main is Holy, but I resp to Ret on an irregular basis, so I have some experiee with the learningurve.
My gearing path won't help, though - from 70 I have beenollting all three sets, and pked up the appropriate quest rewards e. along the way, but this is probablylosed to him if he's 80. The AHan provide quk and dirty upgrades, asan guild BS, but both takeash, at least for mats. As another er said, easy heros are probably the easy path, as they pay off three ways - drops, badges, and rep rewards. Ten runsould easily fill four slots with drops, supplement with the badge libram and belt, and get exalted with e.g. Argentrusade for the me or Ebon Blade for the sword (all depending on where he's at now, ofourse). As for playing, ookieutters are standard for a reason - the "usual suspt" builds work, well enough. urrent thinking is that there is no rotation for Ret, instead it's Firstome First Served (FS) - at any point, use your highest-damage ability that's offooldown: Judgement >rusader Strike > Divine Storm. Mixonsration in somewhere depending on your mana issues,
along with Exoism andor Holy Wrath for undead. Seals got mh simpler yesterday, as they're now 30-minutes, removing the need to reseal during battles (and to remember to reseal!). BloodMartyr is best DPS, but it requires healing - it need not be said that paladins don't heal themselves due to Spiritual Attunement being a big part of the RetProt mana battery, so it's primarily a raid seal unless the group is appropriate to allow the healer a few spareles to top the DPS off. ommand is preferred by many for 5-mans for that reason (me, I think they're wimps whooddle their healers). Judge Light unless there's a serious need for the mana return of Wisdom. If there's a Holy in the same group, theyan do Wisdom or Juste (more to keep their personal haste buff up than for the tual efft of the judgement). Most of this should be in the FAQ, anyway (everything eept for updated gear lists, II). But from personal experiee, I know that halfway dent gearing,
reasonable exution of FS (even if it's only as far as Judge andrusader Strike), and not standing in the fire will make you, if not nessarily an asset, no longer a liability to the group. Or point him here for more questions, then to EJ for the advaedourse (the -graduateourse being able to figure out if
a given EJontribution is a valuable nugget of information that reveals the underlying nature of thelass or just a reasonable-sounding pie of nonsense that willause you to internalize a fundamental mistake).
